PHTHALATES
If you look at the label of anyBeardbrandproduct, you’ll see that it says “phthalate free,” and you might be wondering…
What the heck are phthalates, and how do you even pronounce that word?!
Phthalates (pronounced thal-ates) are a group of chemicals used to make plastics soft and pliable. Additionally, they can be found in many cosmetic products such as shampoo, hair spray, and cologne.
Phthalates can also be found in your body — but not in a your-body-produces-them-naturally kind of way. Instead, we ingest phthalates from food or beverages packaged in plastic containing phthalates, dairy, and meat from animals that have been exposed, and from grooming products.
According to George Washington University, nearly all Americans have phthalate byproducts in theirurine.
So, should I be pissed about having phthalates in my pee?
Like most things, the jury is still out on phthalates. It seems like every year new diseases or fertility issues are being linked to these chemical compounds. However, there are a plethora of different phthalates out there, and not all of them have been studied. As of right now, phthalates are deemed safe by theFDA.
That said, we keep the phthalates out of all of our Beardbrand products. Our ethos is to develop high-quality grooming products that work with your body’s natural chemistry — not alter it. Phthalates just don’t fit with our standards.
Ready to lose the sulfates and build a grooming routine around products that leave your skin, beard, and hair feeling and smelling awesome? We got you.
