I rarely would ever recommend leaving your couch, let alone to do something you could easily do at home. But I can’t recommend enough that you go to your local theater to see the moviePoor Things, starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, and Willem Dafoe. In this current moment of movie remakes, sequels, and prequels,Poor Thingsis a completely original story. It’s part comedy, part sci-fi, part drama (which ticks off all of my film nerd boxes). The film suspends reality just enough where something completely outrageous seems totally normal. I don’t want to give away too much, but basically it’s about Emma Stone’s character Bella going out into the world for the first time with completely fresh eyes and experiencing both the good and the bad. If good writing isn’t enough for you, the costumes and set design alone are worth the trip. It’s 100% worth leaving the house for — it’ll be much better on the big screen.—Bryan RussellSmith, Video Director &Film School Alum Who Spent Way Too Much On A Degree To Just Sit in the Dark Watching Movies |

It’s the holiday season and, unfortunately, my skin didn’t get the memo. Between traveling, lots of sugar cookies, and acclimating back to winter weather, my skin is neither merry nor bright. Add in the possibility of running into everyone from town on my weekend trip to the grocery store, and I’m extra grateful for theVeil Hydrating Skin Tint. \xa0 Not only is this super lightweight and perfect for the weekends when I don’t want to be wearing any heavy make-up, but it’s been so hydrating for my skin. It honestly makes me excited to get ready in the morning, which is no easy feat. What’s more is that even after 12 hours of wear, it doesn’t cling to any of my dry patches. Sure my skin hasn’t adjusted to the east coast weather, but that doesn’t mean anyone else has to know that. \xa0 Best of all, you don’t just take my word for it, as an Allure 2023 Best of Beauty award winner, it has the seal of approval from the makeup gurus themselves. Get your glow on, betch.—Courtney Gavurnik, Account Executive Who Is Not-So Patiently Waiting For Reputation (Taylor’s Version) |

I’m an expert when we’re talking about succumbing to a TikTok trend. Seriously, if you’ve seen it, I’ve probably tried it (and my bank account is pissed about it). But I found something that is actually worth the hype AND IT’S NOT EVEN THAT EXPENSIVE. Enter:Mermade Hair. The Triple Barrel Hair Waver gives the sickest waves that make you serve Ariel while simultaneously channeling the Miley Cyrus beach curl circa 2010. You know what I’m talking about. The Waver literally takes 15 minutes and (as a godsend to someone whose hair is FRIED) actually makes my hair appear less frizzy. I’m not a technology girlie so I can’t explain the science behind it (le duh I’m in a newsletter writing product recos) but this hair tool knows what’s up. I even did the dirty work and can confirm the waves lasted multiple hours in a sweaty, overpacked bar… thank me later.—Alex Teri, Just a Girl Who’s Trying To Make Her Hair Look Better Than a Stack of Hay |

We’ve reached the end of the year, and while you’re planning out goals and resolutions for 2024, don’t forget about self-care. I, like many millennials, downloaded TikTok during the height of the pandemic, and eventually landed on #selfcaretok and #meditationtok. Over the past few years, I have discovered the power that actually taking a few minutes each day to slow TF down and breathe can actually be beneficial to my overall health (who knew?!?). I’ve discovered a few products that have been game changers that you must try this weekend and beyond to start your year off on the right foot. First, I was gifted the bookThe Daily Stoicthat contains quick meditations, thoughtful writing prompts, and mindfulness practices to use in your daily life. The entries are organized in a daily fashion so you only need a few minutes in the morning (or whenever works for you) to read and put the day’s ideas into practice. Next, I found the bookTrue You: A Self-Discovery Journalthat has challenged me to actually reflect on my feelings and explore how to best care for myself. This book isveryinteractive and brings back the nostalgia of a school workbook without the stress of havingactualhomework. So while you create your vision boards for 2024 while ringing in the new year, don’t forget about adding a little self-care to your resolutions.—Lily Clarkson, Marketing Manager Who’s Just Trying To Balance Her Chakras\xa0 |

I can’t possibly be the only millennial woman who’s obsessed with Dad Lit. While I have read and appreciated the Colleen Hoovers and Gillian Flynns of the world, I simply cannot resist an immersive non-fiction read, usually about topics you can’t get your dad to shut up about (see: WWII, natural disasters, and shipwrecks). In the off-chance I’m not alone in my appreciation of the Fatherly Fine Arts, a few that I’d recommend to anyone like me (or any male 60+): David Grann’sThe Wager(a shipwreck survival tale from the author ofKillers of the Flower Moon), John Kelly’sThe Great Mortality(the greatest and most haunting telling of The Black Plague), and Laura M. Mac Donald’sThe Curse of the Narrows(about the Halifax Explosion, one of the biggest 20th century disasters you’ve never heard about). Not only are each of these phenomenal and fascinating reads, they will also give you something other than politics to talk about at the dinner table.—Kate Ward, Chief Content Officer Currently Reading About The Johnstown Flood |
