‘Tis the season to go home and realize you have no idea how to hang out with your parents as an actual adult. FML la la la la la la. Good news is, as someone with nearly four decades worth of experience with parents, I have the perfect recipe for surviving home for the holidays. Vodka definitely included.—Kate Ward, Chief Content Officer & Martini Club Founder\xa0 |

First things first, alcohol. Always alcohol. And, since no one knows alcohol better than New Orleans, I will forever consult thisNew Orleans Cocktailsrecipe book, which features delightfully deadly concoctions from some of the city’s best mixologists. Nothing like absinthe to chase down those endless questions about your love life — when they ask if you’re seeing anyone, you can say the green fairy.\xa0 |

Here’s where I vouch for my underrated fave: 1995’sWhile You Were Sleeping, an actually funny and family-friendly holiday rom-com that, yes, isfarsuperior to its insomniac cousin,Sleepless in Seattle. Iknowyou’re going to say the premise — Sandra Bullock pretending she’s the fiancé of a man who fell into a coma on Christmas after a hospital mix-up — is creepy, but it’s simply a film that at last sheds light on the plight of the people pleaser. Plus, it featuresa bit of unintentional improvthat makes forthe best transition scenein cinema history. Trust me when I say it’s a perfect family watch — nothing bonds mother and daughter together quite like Peter Gallagher.\xa0 |

If your family is cut from more cynical cloth, your holiday movie must is the so-bad-it’s-good(?) filmChristmas With a View. It’s about a celebrity chef that moonlights at a ski lodge where a talented young chef is looking for love and Vivica A. Fox has five minutes of screen time as aprofessionalgingerbread house maker, and Patrick Duffy has a ponytail, and there’s a whole subplot about how cheese makes you fart, and how are you not already running to Netflix to watch this?! |

Admittedly, my family’s go-to holiday game is actuallySorry!. But, given my goal is to provide recommendations thatdon’tlead to divorce or child emancipation, I’ll recommendMind The Gap, a trivia board game that tests the pop culture knowledge of each generationabouteach generation, so all can play along. Those most likely to win will have an equally firm grasp on bothCory In The HouseandThe Waltons.\xa0 |

What’s one thing that will make your family appreciate each other more? Survey says… marathons ofFamily Feudon GSN (orstream on Hulu!!). Just knowing you’ll never clap and say “Good answer” when your brother is asked to name something orange and says “banana” is enough to help you realize it could be so much worse. This holiday, live, laugh, love making fun of families that aren’t yours — together.\xa0 |
