The NYPD didn’t have a problem arresting over 100 protesters at Columbia and breaking down some tents last week, but that’s not enough for Shai Davidai, a professor at the university’s business school. “You can deploy the National Guard to restore safety to Jewish students and all students on campus and do it peacefully,” he said. A day later, Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, took up his demand during a visit to the school. Davidai has made headlines around the country for saying the situation in Morningside Heights is equivalent to Nazi Germany for Jews and calling student protesters “terrorists.” Intelligencer’s Matt Stieb met up with him in Riverside Park to talk about how a self-described “lefty Israeli” became one of the most influential figures in the national fight over campus protests.\xa0 |
