This year alone, the Cut has published51 articleson Taylor Swift. To be fair, she’s had a big year: It started with heron-field smoochwith Travis Kelce (wearing her friend Gigi Hadid’s brand, Guest in Residence); she boosted local GDPs on her record-breaking Eras Tour andbecame a billionaire; and this week, she is releasing her 11th album,The Tortured Poets Department. Few artists have been as deliberate in shaping their own image as Swift. Doesn't it make sense that the woman who hides Easter eggs in her lyrics would do the same with her clothes? It was only fitting that we ask our veteran fashion critic Cathy Horyn to take a look at the role they play in telling her story, on and offstage. Horyn dived into over a decade of sartorial choices to analyze how Swift uses clothing to connect with their fans and portray herself as a woman who’s still coming of age. |
