Dear Reader,
Even though you’re not a Dwell subscriber, we probably have something in common. I hate clicking on a story that I want to read only to find out that I need to pay for yet another subscription to see it. But I assure you that of any of the (I would guess many) things you’ve signed up for lately, Dwell+ will be the most worthwhile.
For one, it makes things like ourMay/June issuepossible. In it, we take a look at new ideas for outdoor living spaces: porches, patios, pools, gardens galore, you name it, we found the most interesting examples out there. How out there? Basically, we went all over the world. We visited ahouse in Nairobi, where big wooden sliding doors work perfectly in the landscape and could also be interesting in your part of the world. We also went to the Pampas outside of Buenos Aires to meet a couple who found a well-preservedhistoric homewith its original indoor-outdoor floor plan. (They had to pry it away from a group of squabbling relatives and jump through other hoops, but just read about how they pulled it off.)\xa0
Maybe the strangest, most daring house in the issue is in Singapore. It’s atownhousecompletely engulfed in a garden that Minh and Emylia rely on to cool the place in the tropical heat because they have bravely chosen to forgo air conditioning. And windows. Seriously, it’s wide open. Civet cats wander in.
Anyway, who are Minh and Emylia? That’s the point. Dwell introduces our readers to real people—like Minh and Emylia—who have chosen to do something extraordinary with where they live, design that shows the rest of us what’s possible.
To get it, you have to go and meet them. And subscriber support allows us to think bigger and tackle more ambitious projects like Minh and Emylia’s home. It allows us to choose the right photographers and assign writers who can convey what it’s really like to be in a remarkable place. In return for that support, subscribers get a look at architecture and home design that you can’t find anywhere else.
