Dear Reader,
There are a lot of places to find glamor shots of architecture or to gawk at celebrities and impossible luxury out there, but that doesn’t tell you anything about whether a home a good place to live. At Dwell, we know our audience wants more than pretty pictures.
I always say we cover remarkable design for regular people, and telling their stories means that for all of our big features, we’ve actually been there and spent time with the people who live there. You won’t get that first-hand insight from a random Instagram post, and we know it’s the only way to understand why design matters.
In the last year alone, we’ve dispatched writers and photographers to coverhigh-design hiking sheltersin the Italian alps, tiny home communitiesfor people who previously lacked homes in Portland, Oregon, and a couple whoDIYed their own houseon a budget in rural Indiana, among many others. Oh, and a500-year-old family homein Bhutan. In short, we strive to cover dwellings of every size, style, budget, and geographic location for as many types of households as possible.
Help us keep doing what we’re doing, and we promise to bring you new, inspiring, important, provocative, and otherwise exciting design every day—plus, ourprint magazinewill give you something for your coffee table six times a year. Please subscribe now and help us champion design that improves people’s lives.
Happy new year, wherever you live, from all of us at Dwell.
Sincerely,
William Hanley
