Dear -, \xa0 If you talk to someone in Canada or Europe or practically anywhere in the world, they probably would never have heard the phrase ‘medical debt.’ The notion of medical debt is simply unheard of in most of the world.\xa0
But in the United States, one study found that 100 million people — a startling 41% of adults — are saddled with medical debt. That is a disgrace.\xa0
The phrase ‘medical debt’ should not exist. If someone gets into debt because they bought luxury goods they could not afford, then they should have to pay that debt. But medical care is not a luxury good. Medical care is not optional. Medical care should be provided for every American citizen.\xa0
If I were President of the United States, I would do everything I can to forgive 100% of Americans’ medical debt, and beyond that, I would establish a Medicare-for-All universal healthcare system that will end the crisis of unaffordable healthcare and prevent anyone from getting into medical debt ever again.\xa0 |
When I’m President, the phrase ‘medical debt’ will be relegated to the dustbin of history, and it will become an unheard-of concept to our children, just like it is to most of the world.\xa0
