Good Morning. Earlier this week, President Bidensigned the TikTok “ban” bill into law. As for what will ultimately happen to TikTok in the United States, nobody knows—especially us, a group whose policy expertise resides inthe relocation of salad forks and soup spoons.However, we’re qualified to forecast how a potential TikTok extinction would impactthe food we cook.Here are three semiserious predictions:

1. A Thick Burger Renaissance.Smash burgersare everywhere because they’re delicious. But, they’re also popular because their ASMR-friendly production process made them ripe for TikTok stardom. With sounds of griddled meat (hopefully) leaving the culinary zeitgeist, I foresee a reclamation of the big, thick burger. When that happens, these arethe burger recipes you’ll want.\xa0

2. More Oven-Fried Chicken. Perhaps TikTok’s disappearance will return our attention to delicious family recipes that were never optimized for internet consumption. LikeJudy Hesser’s Oven-Fried Chicken. Or any of thesetwenty-two treasured family recipes

3. Cooking Through Books. It might not wink at you while slyly chopping cilantro, but classic cookbooks are as lovable as any thirsty TikTok “chef.” If you’re skeptical, cook throughthis bookorthis book—then report back on how right we are.\xa0\xa0

This week, our Test Kitchen caught the dessert bug—we’re all better for it. And with proper planning, you can eat all three sweets in one day.
