I've only ever read Mary Oliver through other writers referencing her poems in their books. I picked upUpstreambecause the cover was so inviting, as if the book promised peace and wonder. And deliver, it did. This has been the first, but from now on I think I'll accept her many other literary invitations.

In each of the eight short stories inYour Utopia, Bora Chung places you at an unexpected vantage point from where you watch the disturbing consequences of our technology’s advancement slowly unfold.I thoroughly enjoyed this as my first read from Chung (and for the year!). I’m already thinking about getting her other translated collection next.

Written in a sharp yet coolly cerebral way,The Consultantmade me think about the invisible forces controlling our everyday lives and the depths we descend to bend our moral compass to fit our narrative and be able to sleep soundly at night! I really love it when an author challenges me to think outside the box and question the norms.

I've always had a soft spot for short stories, but it's the first time I've picked up this title by Michiko Aoyama. This inspiring book takes us into the lives of characters who all feel lost and stuck, and how they found solace in a small library that changed their lives. What You Are Looking For Is in the Libraryis a charming read that offers comfort and inspiration to start the year with a new mindset.
