WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY? I’ve always had a strong humanitarian side to me so I knew as a child I would go into a career that helped others. I chose to be an oncology nurse because it gives me the opportunity to impact the lives of people when they are at their most vulnerable. They have been given a diagnosis that makes them face mortality. It’s scary, it’s overwhelming, it’s upsetting; and if I can make that a little easier for them then it’s all worth it. HOW HAS GORUCK HELPED YOUR CAREER? I was already a nurse when I discovered GORUCK but I feel like I’ve become a more impactful, efficient, resilient nurse because of it. GORUCK and the cadre have taught me how to be more patient, to be more understanding of others and what they can bring to the table even if I don’t see it at first. The term “DFQ” has such a strong meaning in cancer care. If I don’t support my patients when times are tough, they may die when they still had much more time available but just couldn’t see it at that moment. The cadre have taught me how to be a good leader, to take responsibility for my actions and the actions of our team. I can’t thank the cadre and this company enough. |
