Turns out Black Friday wasn’talwaysa shopping spree–it actually started in the 1950swithchaos around a post-Thanksgiving football game.
There was ahugeArmy-Navy football game held every Saturday after Thanksgiving in Philadelphia, andshoppers and tourists alike flooded the streets of the cityin preparation.
The Philly cops had to work overtime
to deal with all thecrowds, traffic,
and shoplifters.
Eventually, stores found a way to reinvent Black Friday to reflect something positive.
This is the Black Friday we all know now.
