January is a good time to take it easy. I know that some of us use this month to push ourselves: we start that fitness regimen, or commit (again) to learning to speak French. Fair enough. But here's another thought: Use January as a time to doless, to build up your reserves for the rest of the year. If you want to try that route, our Bake of the Week may come in handy. As breads go,Easy Granola Breadis about as laid back as they get. It comes together entirely in the mixer (you can do it by hand, but it will be quite sticky). And with a start-to-finish time of five hours, it's a perfect weekend loaf: Five hours is the ideal amount of time to stay home and read while your bread slowly rises and then bakes. |

Once you have a baked loaf in the house, the laidback vibes continue. This is a cozy bread โ enriched with butter and brown sugar, and packed withdried fruitand seeds โ that begs you to stay inside. Toast a slice and pair it with milky tea. At lunch, turn it into a grilled cheese. Use this bread as an excuse to stay home and nourish yourself. French lessons will be there next month; a loaf of Granola Bread will only last a few days. | David |
