Let's hear from the Designers.
Q1) Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you'd had in mind for a while?

Under the working title "Dijon," we derived the design inspiration for Montaigne from a Garamond sample dating back a century, emphasizing its sophisticated attributes. Initially envisioned as a display version, we contemplated the possibility of developing a separate text version later. However, as the project progressed, we concluded that Montaigne performed admirably as both a display and text font, eliminating the necessity for an additional text version.

Q2) What should graphic communicators know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better designs?

Montaigne is envisioned as an intellectual and sophisticated typeface, embodying the essence of uncompromising and critical thinking. It stands as an antithesis to the contemporary chaos of information overload and fake news. Montaigne comes fully equipped with a range of modern features, including Oldstyle Numerals, Small Caps, Discretionary Ligatures, and Swash Initials.

#2 Maison Neue®
by Milieu Grotesque
Maison Neue is the completely reworked version of our original Maison typeface family. While the earlier version was constructed using rigid elements, Maison Neue has been meticulously redrawn to be less formulaic and have a stronger focus on optical criteria to create a distinct grotesque paying greater attention to harmony, rhythm and flow. In 2017, Maison Neue was further developed and expanded into a super family of 40 styles. This includes the subtly condensed original version, an extended counterpart, a mono-spaced alignment—all featuring additional weights within each family.

Interview Snippet: Maison Neue is an evolution of my earlier typeface Maison, which started as an experiment by simply constructing the glyphs using repetitive, modular shapes. An effective method to achieve fast results, similar to the early modernist architecture principles, from which I drew inspiration from. Maison Neue is an evolution of this concept, focusing on more modern, up-to-date aspects of the same idea.

Q2) What should graphic communicators know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better designs?

Maison Neue is designed to play a vital and prominent role in any kind of environment / communication. Most importantly are they conceived to provide a distinct visual language that (hopefully) inspires it to use the fonts in a bold and innovative way. And finally, the meticulous and up-to-date execution, together with a large range of styles and weights allows a wide range of applications, from analog to digital, large to small etc.

Campeche
Campeche
#3 Campeche
by Latinotype
Campeche is an expressive yet functional typeface family. Seeking to express its beauty, it twists the conventions of classic typography when necessary. Campeche finds its inspiration in the grotesque typefaces of the late 19th century coupled with a typical Latin American playful sense that gives it a modern freshness.

The initial form arises from the idea of expanding Seriguela, evolving along the way, becoming its own system with a unique personality. Campeche is designed for today's requirements. It is available in two styles and three widths, from condensed to extended, with 9 weights each, totaling 54 fonts, in addition to the variable version.

Campeche is a comprehensive typographic system that provides versatility for almost any use. It can be used for packaging, editorial, branding... etc. The mix of widths and between the normal and display versions can generate complex graphic parts or systems with different levels of hierarchy, without losing unity.

Q1) Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you'd had in mind for a while?

Campeche's initial idea came from expanding my Seriguela font (which is very condensed) to other widths until reaching the extended one. But, during this process, Campeche was gaining its own characteristics such as the “c” and “e”, which are the letters that give it a special and unique personality. For many years I had the idea of making a very broad system that would allow for diverse uses, and Campeche emerged after studying many families with weight, width and contrast variations as well as variable fonts.

Q2) What should graphic communicators know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better designs?

Campeche was created with the objective of being a very broad and versatile family (totaling 54 fonts + variable version) allowing various uses. It is made up of two subfamilies, one high contrast and one low, each with nine weights: from thin to heavy, as well as 3 width variations: condensed, normal and expanded. Campeche has short ascenders and descenders, allowing for tight blocks of text. In addition, the possibility of combining high contrast weight with low contrast weight (title and subtitle) is a plus for any designer to use.

Pais
Pais
#4 Pais
by Latinotype
País is a contemporary and modern grotesque sans serif, inspired by the grotesques of the early 20th century, but more geometric and with a wider x-height than its referents; making it ideal for the current times. País comes in 2 versions, each with 9 weights, from thin to black, and matching italics, for a total of 36 fonts.

The standard sans serif version is fresh, clean, and more ideally neutral. It's a perfect choice for editorial design, branding, headlines, or any other piece of graphic design.

Q1) Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you'd had in mind for a while?

The idea of the País font was born from looking at the classic grotesques, and trying to make a more contemporary and classic design. When designing, I am always very concerned about the ‘x’ height and the terminals, particularly in this case they have a slight inclination towards the center, ending in a point. I love seeing how it works in different design applications.

For a long time I’ve wanted to design a typeface based on classic grotesques but with a fresher and contemporary look. In fact, it took me 2 years, and many trials to see it in use and reach an optimal result.

Q2) What should graphic communicators know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better designs?

I am a graphic designer, so I care a lot about the use of typography, both for display and for use in any graphic medium. You should know that the País font has 2 versions: a very classic version and a more expressive and modern alternative. Basically they are 2 fonts in one. As the Latinotype slogan says: Fonts for all!
