$Dear RTR Community, In honor of Women’s History Month, Rent the Runway is gifting \\$1M in free one month subscriptions of our most popular 10-item plan to women who have recently experienced something awesome in their careers – a promotion, new job, successful launch, etc. Why are we doing this? Several weeks ago, I gave birth to my third baby (Desi!) and received more praise and affirmation than when I took Rent the Runway public — only one of 30 women to do so in history.$

This inspired me to think about how women are disproportionately celebrated for our personal accomplishments (engagements, weddings, etc.) over our professional wins.

Studies show that women are way less likely to share professional accolades than their male counterparts - and because we talk about ourselves less, our accomplishments become less visible. But in the working world, self-promotion is critical to our continued workplace advancement. Historical performance is a prerequisite – but as you get more senior in an organization, the more you need a community of people advocating for you to get to the next level. Think of this as a personal net promoter score – the more people willing to promote you, the quicker you’ll rise.
