LCpl William Russo, 19, U.S.M.C., born in New Jersey September 3, 1948, was killed in action on May 28, 1968. Russo was a Rifleman with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. During Operation Napoleon/Saline, his unit was on patrol near the DMZ when they came upon a large NVA encampment, and a week-long battle began. His company was eventually victorious, but on the sixth night of fighting, Russo was shot and killed by an enemy sniper. For his service, he earned two Purple Hearts. Semper Fi, Marine!
