The NFL Draft never seems to disappoint. A record-setting crowd packed downtown Detroit late last week for the three-day extravaganza to watch history unfold. Astonishingly, the first 14 draft picks were all offensive players, including six quarterbacks in the opening 12 selections. For just the third time ever in the 89-year history of the event, the top three picks in the draft were all gunslingers. USC’s Caleb Williams went No. 1 to the Chicago Bears, LSU’s Jayden Daniels was selected second by the Washington Commanders, and the New England Patriots took North Carolina’s Drake Maye at No. 3. In a somewhat surprising move, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. went eighth to the Atlanta Falcons. The Minnesota Vikings took their heir apparent at No. 10 with Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. Oregon’s Bo Nix jumped up the board and was selected 12th by the Denver Broncos. The six quarterbacks taken in the opening round match the star-studded 1983 Draft in which future Hall of Famers John Elway, Jim Kelly, and Dan Marino were all selected.TOPPS NOW® commemoratedthis year’s record-tying quarterback class with some amazing cards. Look for rookie cards of these draft picks in future Topps products.\xa0 |
