Who are you gonna call when a bee colony located in the protective netting behind home plate is delaying the start of a game? You better bee sure it’s Matt Hilton. When the ArizonaDiamondbacksandLos Angeles Dodgerscontest on April 30 faced a sticky situation as a swarm of bees made their home at Chase Field, the D-backs gave the local beekeeper a quick buzz. Hilton had to depart his son’s T-ball game – presumably leaving his honey, err … wife, to take care of the family. After a 45-minute drive to the park, Hilton’s life changed in an instant. Fully protected in a bee suit, Hilton used an electric scissor lift to take a beeline to the hive at the top of the netting. He sprayed the colony filled with thousands of bees and knocked it down. The game was back on. Due to his heroic work, the Diamondbacks asked Hilton to throw out the game's ceremonial first pitch. If that wasn’t enough to make the bee specialist’s day, Topps honored Hilton with hisfirst official trading card. TOPPS NOW® used an image of Hilton with his hands raised on the pitcher’s mound prior to throwing out the first pitch. The ballpark erupted with cheers for the hometown hero. With this instant fame, Hilton might never bee the same.\xa0 |

Have you ever thought about doing a “stadium rip?” That’s buying a pack or box of trading cards during a sporting event and hoping you hit a big card. On May 4, the Force was definitely with a fan attending thePhillies-Giantsgame at Citizens Bank Park. The person pulled a 2024 Topps Series 1Jasson DominguezSuperfractor. A friend of the lucky person posted in a Facebook sports card group: “Thoughts on its value and how the hell do we get it out of here clean?” Let’s hope his card of the Yankees’ top prospect made it home safe and sound. |
