Milan got off to a busy start yesterday. Diesel’s Glenn Martens staged a multimedia happening complete with 700 folks and at least one alien (a filter, my seat mate Margaret Zhang said) on Zoom screens from around the world. Fausto Puglisi introduced a kinder, gentler Roberto Cavalli with a dash of Mario Fortuny. And newcomer Marco Rambaldi had a high profile RSVP in the form of Sabato De Sarno (the Gucci designer told me he wants to support young talent this week at a preview of his own collection). Luke Leitch reviewed Kim Jones’s Fendi. I was quite taken with the show’s boots and their built-in leather “pant hems.” Luke zoomed in on the Chupa Chups-sized leather lollipops attached to the Peekaboo bags, calling them a “clubbing reference.” Jones had told him he’d been thinking about the New Romantics and the Blitz kids in the UK—“Princess Julia, Judy Blame, Leigh Bowery: these people I have always admired.” What did you see?
