Hey Everyone,

It's pretty much full winter here in New York, but you know what they say, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices. We don't fully agree, but we sure think we can help you make some good clothing choices. From the snuggest baselayer to the widest overlayer and everywhere in-between.

The first choice for staying comfortable in the cold is choosing to stay dry. Wet fabric will suck the heat right out of you. Since your body sweats even in the winter, choosing the right base layer is absolutely crucial and we choose the best, merino against the skin. Wool is unique among all common fibers in that it can insulate even while wet, plus it can absorb moisture while keeping a dry touch. Our first choice for next to skin in the winter is the ultralightDreamweight Normies,Dreamweight Raw Cut LongsleevesandDreamweight Raw Cut Turtleneck. They weigh close to nothing but extremely fine 100s single yarns knit up quite tightly creating a soft dry warmth that sets up the rest of your gear for greatness.\xa0

Of course for those who want a bit more thickness to their baselayer the stone classicUltrafine Merino Cut One T-ShirtsandUltrafine Merino Longsleevesare spectacular here too, especially if you plan to strip all the way down to the base layer at times. And hey there is a bit less supply of the compactCut Twosand overflowingCut Threesbut those work just as well too.

Next up is the shirt layer, or alternatively the light midlayer layer. There are a huge range of options here, but lately we've been pretty drawn to theWarmform Merino. One of the trickiest things with layering is remembering insulation works both ways, and sequencing matters. If you layer in the wrong sequence you can trap heat in the wrong layer, resequencing and sometimes even removing a layer can make you warmer.Warmformsolves all that by both being a great insulator and also quite open, allowing it to work synergistically with the layers around it. On its own it's a great indoors layer, and a fantastic outdoor high exertion in cool weather layer too (we love to wear it hiking). Throw a wind blocking or heavier insulation layer on top though and the warmth kicks up significantly for optimal coziness in the widest range of conditions.\xa0

We've got a lot of love for the midlayer too. The heavy outer layers aren't our zone, we experiment there and have a little fun but then go home. But those lighter, layer upon layer upon layer pieces, that's where the party is at. Like any good party the characters involved change pretty quickly, but theFuturecore Warmshirtis probably going to be there. The Warmshirt setup is optimized for warmth without overheating, with merino on the skin side, highly breathable Alpha insulation in the middle and all sorts of variants on the outside. TheF.Clothin theFuturecore Warmshirtis lightweight, breathable and strong making it one of the most versatile and dependable warmshirts around. Don't sleep on theHard/co Merinoeither though, there is magic in theSeveneighthsif you open your mind to it, a pullover with the ventilation of a full zip, plus a whole lot of styling versatility. Then for those who want the big and heavy joint, theExtrafleece Topcoatcan't be beat....
