SGT Nicholas J. Lightner, 29, U.S. Army, born in Oregon February 17, 1978, was killed in action on March 21, 2007. Lightner served as a Health Care Specialist with 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, and deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While on a combat patrol mission near Baghdad, he and five of his brothers-in-arms lost their lives when an IED detonated as his unit went by. For his service, Lightner was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Rest easy, Hero! Til Valhalla, Brother!
