WHY USE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER

Most of us, at some point, will want to improve our homes. After all, who wouldn’t want to live in a nicer abode?\xa0

During this consideration, many will wonder “Should I use an interior designer?”\xa0

Here’s some reasons why it’s a good idea to engage a credible interior designer.

BACK TO BASICS

Firstly, let’s go back a step and consider another important question, about what interior design really is, what does it incorporate, and why should we care?

At a very basic level, good interior design adds a new dimension to a space, but it can also increase our efficiency and enjoyment in the way we live and work. It should add understanding, greater depth and meaning to the built environment around us. Therefore, interior design is not just about the aesthetic, but a practical and philosophical discipline, where the status quo is challenged, and new and exciting ways to exist, can be explored.

ACCURATE SPACE PLANNING

At Tobias Oliver Interiors, we look to transform a space - not just through the use of colour, light and finishes – but on a much deeper level, through careful consideration of the structure of the space and how it can be reimagined - which sometimes means original preconceptions of a space are completely overturned.

Therefore, when undertaking a new design project, we will also most likely apply an amount of interior architectural knowledge alongside interior design, which means we can assess existing spaces and reconfigure and repurpose them to work in the best way possible, in terms of the space available and how our clients want to live in their homes.

MANAGING THE PROCESS

The process undertaken throughout an interior design project is a set of operations which will be carefully managed by your interior designer, resulting in a thoroughly considered and well-crafted design solution that meets your requirements. The reality with almost all projects is that many of the individual elements are interrelated, meaning that if one part needs to change during the process, then other areas will by default need to be revised too.

Often this means that new ideas and solutions will need to be explored and introduced during the project process – this is when it is very beneficial to have a team of experts to see the best way through. The design process is not a one size fits all discipline, so developments need to be adaptable to meet the unique nature of each project.

RELIABLE CONTACTS\xa0AND STRONG RELATIONSHIPS

When undertaking an interior design project, it is more than likely there will be a need to bring in additional professionals, for example: structural engineers, surveyors, architects, and project managers; not to mention contractors for specialist decoration and manufacture of bespoke furniture and window treatments. Most experienced interior designers will have established relationships with other contractors, and the trust they have built up over their years of working together will be worth its weight in gold when navigating the ups and downs of a project.

TRUST

With trust in mind, for us, it is critically important that we have a strong and trustworthy relationship with all our clients. Apart from the fact that our clients allow us into their personal homes, and an intimate access to their way of life, it is of paramount importance to us that we make all decisions with our clients’ end goals in mind. Our clients trust us to create spaces that will become a part of their everyday lives, and this trust is something we appreciate and value highly throughout the entire project.

FUTURE THINKING

There are many challenges that we will all face as a global community, and how we live on this planet, and finding suitable solutions offers up a creative challenge to designers. Climate change, population growth and unsustainable consumption are causing issues and need thought - almost all the solutions are to do with the way we live so this is an important factor for interior designers to carefully consider.

We will need to navigate new and unknown landscapes to propose alternative options for using available resources. These are welcome changes for our world and offer an exciting opportunity for designers to take these ideas into consideration whilst ensuring maintenance of a sense of comfort and well-being in our lives.

COST

There is clearly a cost associated with using an interior designer, but our experience has shown that clients can often save money in the long run by relying on the designers’ expert knowledge and experience.\xa0\xa0By compiling a detailed Schedule of Works at the start of a project, interior designers will\xa0avoid costly mistakes further down the line, as well as the sizeable time investment which is nearly always hugely underestimated. It is easy to overlook small details, but an experienced interior designer will know what to include before the final budget is agreed.

YOUR PROJECT

We pride ourselves on the fact that we do not have an “in-house” design style. Instead, we prefer to work with our clients to make their dream space, a certain reality. We take time to understand who our clients are as people, and how they may live or work with others in the building. We consider the original style of the property as well as the exterior surroundings and take all these things into account when working. \xa0

DECIDING FACTOR

Some people may conclude that they want to engage an interior designer after a careful appraisal of their circumstances. For others, it will be a vague idea that there is likely to be someone who can provide better answers to their problem than they can themselves.
